So I've decided to start on a positive note with an absolute cracker of a classic that should be mandatory watching for any self proclaimed movie aficionado.
Based on the H.G. Wells book, this story is really one that is quite suitably timeless. Personally I love how in 1960 they decided to try and determine what the next few years held for mankind and how we "in the future" know that's not
how things played out, but that doesn't mean that the quite realistic threat of cold war wasn't an important part of life at the time and a real fear that the film makers could prey on.
The story is about George who, surprise surprise, has built a time machine. He travels into the future to a time where the human race is now found in two incarnations the morlocks and the eloi. Without giving anything away let's just say adventures ensue.
Personally, the time machine itself is a fantastic piece of design, and if I was going to travel through time, there is really only one way to do and that is in style. It's such a classic piece The Big Bang Theory found it necessary to dedicate a whole episode to it, because is it not every geeks dream to own their own time machine.
Rod Taylor who plays George does a wonderful job, and is also notable for his role in Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds. But what I was surprised to find out, as I trawled the interweb and its many information points, that not only is this wonderful man still alive, he is still working and made an appearance in Quentin Tarantino's rehash of Inglourious Basterds as Winston Churchill.
This movie is an absolute gem and gets a well deserved 5 out of 5. And added to list of "To Watch". Watch it or allow your mind to be reduced to mush as you try to find something that supersedes it.
